The Colorado State swimming and diving team, and head coach Woody Woodard, have released the 2017-18 schedule.
The Rams’ season begins with a tri-meet in Grand Junction, Colo., on Oct. 6-7 against Colorado Mesa and BYU. CSU will then host its first meet of the year with a dual against Denver at Moby Pool on Oct. 21.
The coaching staff is excited about the level of competition that the team will face this season.
“We’re really happy about the competition we’ve scheduled,” Woodard said. “We have Denver and Wyoming early, so we’ll have to be ready to go hard right away. We wanted to schedule teams that would challenge us and we did. Now we just have to get to work.”
The program will face off against five front range foes in Wyoming, Denver, Air Force, Colorado Mesa, and Northern Colorado. CSU defeated Northern Colorado and Colorado Mesa last season.
The team’s swimmers will partake in the three-day Phil Hansel Invite hosted by Houston, Nov. 16-18. The divers will be in Flagstaff, Ariz., from Nov 17-19 for the Northern Arizona Diving Invite. Both Houston and Northern Arizona will visit Fort Collins during the season for dual meets.
Woodard is optimistic about what his squad can accomplish this season, coming off the program’s best finish in the Mountain West since 2009 (fifth). He also believes his newcomers will contribute quickly.
“We’re very excited to welcome this diverse class of student-athletes to the Ram family,” Woodard said about his additions. “There is a lot of potential in this class and they will help a great deal in driving our success as a team this season.”
The Mountain West Conference Championships are hosted in San Antonio, Texas from Feb. 14-17 at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center.
