Community Mourns Loss of Lockport High School Swimmer Who Died on College Visit

SwimSwam sends its condolences to the friends, family, and community of Michael Dmochowski.

A Lockport, New York-based high school swimmer has passed away over the weekend.  The Buffalo News is reporting that Michael Dmochowski, a senior at Lockport High School, had spent the day on a recruiting visit to Ithaca College and passed away in a vehicular accident around 9:30pm last Friday, March 20th.

Guidance Counselor Krista Isherwood described Dmochowski as “an exceptional student.  He was a humble guy, but always smiling,” she said.  Dmochowski was an Academic All-American as a high school swimming standout at Lockport.

The senior was set to graduate with New York State’s highest diploma offering, a Regents diploma with advanced designation and had  strong desire to swim in college while also pursuing an engineering or pharmacy degree.

The school’s Donate Life Club, sponsored by Unyts, will give a scholarship in his name.  Services have yet to be announced.

This is such sad news. A real tragedy and he sounds like such a fine young man. I’ll be praying for his family.
