Conference USA has added some new honorees for this week’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week:
Swimmer of the Week: Kaitlyn Swinney.
Swinney, of Rice University, has been honored as the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week. Swinney is in her sophomore year at Rice and posted top C-USA times in both the 200 IM and 400 IM this past weekend (2:02.03, 4:24.32). Other swims that helped Swinney onto these honors included a first place finish against SMU in the 200 back (2:03.25) and a first place finish in the 500 free against the Mean Green in the 500 free (5:01.17)- which was good for a top 5 time in C-USA for the season. Swinney’s a Houston native who was a 5-A all-state qualifier an USA Swimming Scholastic All American. This is her first time winning this honor for Rice.
Diver of the Week: Megan Wolons
Wolons, of Marshall University, won her second Diver of the Week honors this week from C-USA. Furthermore, she has a history of record setting for her university. As a sophomore, she was the first diver to ever finish in the top three at the Conference USA Championships- finishing second in the platform and third in the 1 meter. Her performance this week against C-USA foe Old Dominion and Dayton saw her take first place finishes in the one meter and three meter. Both events were personal bests for Wolons, as well as school record breaking in the case of the three meter. She has also qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships with this performance.
Two in a row, way to go Megan!
How ’bout that Herd!
