Conger Posts 3rd Fastest 200 Fly Ever in Big 12 Meet Record of 1:39.1

2017 BIG 12 SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On the final night of competition at the 2017 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, Texas’ Jack Conger defended his 200 fly title in Meet Record fashion. Conger threw down the 3rd fastest 200 fly in history, clocking in at 1:39.17 to break his own former Big 12 Meet Record of 1:40.57 from the 2016 conference meet.

Jack Conger 200 Fly Splits Comparison By 50:

What I see happening at NCAAs
Schooling 22.6 47.0 (24.4) 1:12.0 (25.0) 1:37.3 (25.3)
Conger 21.8 46.3 (24.5) 1:11.0 (24.7) 1:37.3 (26.3)
Conger goes out very hard, Schooling goes out faster than normal as well. Conger hits the wall at the 150 in 1:11 flat, a second ahead of schooling, however Schooling rallies on the seventh 25 to pull even with Conger, then the two fight head to head to the wall, the result is decided by hundredths.

So, the exact same thing as last year? Bold prediction

When Conger swam a 1:13.0 150 fly, Eddie said he need to go out faster in the 200 when shave and taper.

Here have a look at what MIKEH predicted more than a year ago:

At last season’s championships, Conger hit the 150 wall in a 1:14.2, did the final lap in 25.4, and finished in a 1:39.7. If he can go out faster this year, say in a 1:12.5, and finish in a 25.5, he’ll do the 200 yard butterfly in a 1:38 flat.

The split wasn’t quite right but the time fit perfectly.

Wow thank you! I had completely forgotten about that! I guess I was half right.

Since I am on a roll, I’ll make a second bold prediction:

Conger wins the 200 fly at NCAAs. Here is my reasoning: Coach Reese stated in an interview that several of his Olympians eased back into training and that Schooling didn’t round into form until the Arizona dual meet. Indeed Schooling competed less this year than his teammates. I think Schooling is very close to fully rested right now and that is why his times were so fast.

I suspect Conger has been training hard all year. I don’t believe he missed any meets. He will go faster still than his 1:39.1 here at… Read more »

LONG LIVE KING CONG!!!!!

Lauren, you’re forgetting Conger’s 1:39.31 from Big 12’s at that time trial in 2015.
