During prelims last night at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships, we saw several fast times. After all the debate surrounding Connor Hoppe’s ability to compete this weekend, he was allowed to swim and threw down a 53.63 100 breaststroke for his prelims swim. Mat Whittle had another strong swim, posting a 1:47.64 in the 200 IM.
Hoppe’s 53.63 is just off of Andrew Seliskar’s National Public High School record. Hoppe swam a 53.12 at NCSA’s, which is faster than the currently-recognized record of 53.24 done by Andrew Seliskar of Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia in February. The overall National High School Record is 52.92, belonging to Jacob Molacek.
He will have another shot to break that record during finals today.

Stafford is bringing in a Medley Relay that flat starts- sub 52, sub 60, sub 52, and sub 47. And there is still a couple of pretty darned fast kids on the outside looking in on that.
Hoppe and Poppe! Funny. 🙂
Other results from these Californian championships. It will be much easier next year for me to understand something with only one meet! 🙂

I wanted a sub minute for Heidi Poppe in the 100 breast and the future Stanford swimmer did it! She broke the minute barrier for the first time!
59.85 in the last meet of her high school career. Great story.
If I read well it looks like he has swum 53.06 in final.
It’s not free, at least live, but you can watch some Californian high school meets here.
