Connor Kalisz of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club has verbally committed to Florida State, he announced this evening via Twitter.
Kalisz, the younger brother of 2013 NCAA Champion Chase Kalisz and former National Age Group Record holder Courtney, is like most NBAC products in that he is very versatile and has had most of his best times in long course. He’s a very good IM’er, and in the 200 has been 2:08.5 in long course and 1:52.15 in short course. He’s also been 2:06.5 in the 200 backstroke in long course (1:49.30 in yards).
Florida State has the ACC’s best 200 IM’er, in Pawel Sankovich, but he effectively came to Tallahassee that way from Belarus last season, and will be gone by the time Kalisz gets there. He will have a solid performer Juan Sequera to train with for a year, and seems to be good enough in a broad-enough range of events that the Florida State coaches will be able to do some tinkering to see where he’s going to fit best as an NCAA athlete.
Kalisz is also the founder and voice of Embrace the Beat – which is basically an online music magazine and music promotion website.
Welcome to the family Connor.
