Consistency Is Key: Caeleb Dressel Ties 17-18 NAG Record With Another 18.86

For the second time today, Caeleb Dressel went 18.86 in the 50 freestyle, tying his 17-18 NAG record. The first time lowered his NAG record leading off the 200 freestyle record, and he tied his time in his individual prelim swim.

His individual swim was slightly different from his relay lead off. During the relay, he was out in 9.14, compared the 9.00 in the individual event. He will have two more chances tonight to lower his NAG record and inch closer to Nathan Adrian’s American record.

Dressel posted the fastest time of the morning and will be top seed going into finals this evening.

He also tied, to the hundredth, Brad deBorde’s school record from last year, which was also the top qualifying time for finals at NCAAs. Rooting for Caeleb to finish the mission tonight!

Well I have to say I am impressed with Coach Greg Troy. Caeleb Dressel entered Coach Troy’s program a fully formed sprinter with international experience, and Coach Troy has made him faster. I don’t always agree with Coach Troy’s philosophy, but it has worked thus far with Caeleb Dressel.

I think Caeleb 50 free is great(amazing to be clear), but i would put in second best in my list of most impressive 50s(from yards to long course) losing to Sedov 20.59 SCM from last Worlds.Swimming is getting so crazy fast, it is hard to measure each deed properly.Chering Dressel to do a 18.7 tonight!

Poor Ryan Hoffer I can’t see him getting to Dressel now

18.86 is smoking I wonder if it will be enough to beat Kristian Gkolomeev. He still swam faster for a lead off then Dressel did so I wonder why he lost here. Maybe saving up?

Humans are not machines, and going .12 slower in the 50 compared to the relay doesn’t necessarily mean he was saving up.

If he goes 18.6 tonight, I suppose he was though.
