SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University head swim coach Logan Simpson announces the hiring of assistant coach Marcella Da Costa.

I am extremely excited to bring Marcella on board as our new Assistant Coach,” Simpson said. “She brings a wealth of high level swimming experience and a deep knowledge of the sport. Marcella is coming off a stint with an excellent program at Oakland, where she gained hands-on experience with all facets of a championship team. I can’t wait to see the impact she will make on Converse swimming and our student-athletes.”

This past summer both Da Costa and Simpson worked together at the Auburn University Swim Camp. Most recently, Da Costa was a graduate assistant at Oakland University and helped the team win back-to-back men’s and women’s Horizon League Championships. As a graduate assistant, she had a broad portfolio of responsibilities that included on-deck coaching, on-campus recruiting, practice planning and administrative work.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Da Costa competed for Eastern Michigan, where she was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection. Da Costa excelled in both the freestyle and butterfly events and earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors during her time at Eastern Michigan.

Da Costa graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management while minoring in Marketing at Eastern Michigan, before acquiring an MBA degree at Oakland University.
