Coronavirus Hits Home For Commonwealth Games Medalist Holly Hibbott

The coronavirus pandemic hit very close Commonwealth Games medalist Holly Hibbott, as the 20-year-old’s mother was diagnosed with the condition two weeks ago.

Speaking to British Swimming this week, freestyle ace Hibbott described how her mother contracted the coronavirus while working on the ward as a member of Great Britain’s National Health Service (NHS).

“My mom being in bed for a week really opened my eyes to this pandemic,” Hibbott stated. As a result, Hibbott was advised not to train and only just got back to her at-home cardio routine yesterday.

Biding her time with running and working on the ski erg, Hibbott is counting the days until she can join her new teammates at Bath. As we reported last month, Hibbott is among the influx of swimmers headed to Dave McNulty‘s stable at Bath as soon as training can resume.

As to why Hibbot is making the transition from her previous station of Stockport Metro to Bath, the budding star stated, “I’ve worked with Dave on previous British teams and I like the way he works and how he pushes swimmers.”
