There are a few major scratches on the final night of the 2022 U.S. Open, with only four of them being in ‘A” finals.
Leonardo De Deus scratched out of the men’s 200 fly ‘A’ final. He finished third in prelims with a time of 1:59.12 behind Nick Albiero and Zach Harting. In the finals, his spot will be taken by Felippe Baffico, who was ninth in the prelims with a time of 2:04.47. De Deus did not compete in any other races today, which makes that his work for this meet is done. Earlier on in the competition, he raced the 100 fly, where he made the ‘A’ final and finished eighth overall.
In the fastest heats of the men’s 1500 free, #1 Guilherme Costa, #2 Will Gallant, and #7 Joey Tepper have all scratched, with their spots being taken by #9 Nicholas Caruso, #10 Norvin Clontz III, and #11 Jake Narvid. Tepper has not raced at this meet yet, having scratched out of the 400 free as well. Meanwhile, Gallant previously swam the 800 free and Costa previously swam the 200, 400, and 800 free. Costa was the event winner in both the 400 and 800 free.
