Courtney Weaver Verbally Commits to Georgia

Courtney Weaver, one of the biggest recruits remaining in the class of 2014, has verbally committed to the defending NCAA Champions University of Georgia have fired back in the virtual recruiting war against Stanford for the top class in the country.

We had Weaver ranked among our top 20 recruits in the country, and her times in the butterfly races make that a no-brainer. In yards, she’s been 53.2 and 1:57.2 in the 100 and 200 butterflies, her best two events. She’s the defending YMCA short course national champion in that 100 fly as well, swimming for the Greater Flint YMCA (though she passed on high school swimming as a junior).

She also goes 55.8/2:02.2 in the backstrokes, 1:05.9 in the 100 breast, and 51.1 in the 100 free.

In long course, she’s a 59.3 in the 100 fly and a 2:10.9 in the 200 fly – among the best in the class as well, both of which put her 3rd at the summer’s USA Swimming Junior National Championship meet.

She joins a Georgia class that already included Megan Kingsley, one of the other top-6 butterfliers in this class. They’ve also heard affirmatives from Meaghan Raab and Stephanie Peters, who are predominantly freestylers, and one of the class’ top backstrokers Kylie Stewart.

Stanford’s class is probably still a little better, but there’s certainly enough talent left for Georgia to make up that ground after this signing. The top swimmer, in our rankings, still available is Bethany Galant, a breaststroker from Indiana, who we had as #10.
