Croenen Lowers Own Belgian Record In 100 Fly Eindhoven Prelims

EINDHOVEN QUALIFICATION MEET (NED)

Belgian Olympian Louis Croenen means business as he attempts to qualify for the postponed Olympic Games. The 27-year-old posted a morning 100m fly time of 52.00, good enough to land lane 4 for tonight’s final, while also checking in with the fastest time ever by a Belgian.

Entering this meet, Croenen’s personal best and Belgian national record stood at the 52.10 he produced just a handful of months ago at December’s Rotterdam Quaiflication Meet. There, Croenen split 24.40/27.70 to make Belgian history.

This morning here in Eindhoven, Croenen hit an identical split on the way out but shaved .10 off the backend to bring it home in 27.60. That was enough to get his hand on the wall first ahead of charging Dutchman Nyls Korstanje, who clocked 52.03 to push Croenen into tonight’s final.

Both still have the final yet to come tonight, where the 1fly swimmers will try to overcome the FINA ‘A’ cut of 51.96 needed to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games, postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus.

Well, Korstanje will have to swim a 51.92 to get to the olympics, the Dutch criteria are a bit stricter than FINA ‘A’ cut
You can see that in the table on page 2 of this document https://www.nocnsf.nl/media/1640/sjabloon-normen-en-limieten-swimming-os-tokyo-2020.pdf (100 meter vlinderslag heren)
