CSCAA Announces Fall Team-Scholars List

The Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America has announced their official fall team-scholars list for the Fall, 2009 semester. To make the list, a school has to have a team GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale, converted if necessary) for the fall semester/secondtrimester/first or second quarter. Teams must include all athletes who have competed for them, regardless of how much or little they contribute to the team.

In Division 1, the top women’s team was Gardner-Webb, located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. The Bulldogs sported an impressive 3.52 gpa for the semester. The rest of the top 5 was Akron University (3.49), the University of Illinois (3.49) , George Washington University (3.48) and Purdue University (3.48), who had the highest GPA of any team ranked in the top 25 of the latest CSCAA poll. The Georgia Bulldogs, who were ranked no. 1 in the latest CSCAA poll.

The Division 1 men were led by American University in Washington, D.C, who had a combined GPA of 3.47. Next in line were two Ivy League rivals in Yale (3.36) and Harvard (3.31). The top 5 was rounded out by two small, liberal arts colleges, Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, both with a 3.30. The University of Alabama is the highest-rated top 25 team in GPA, with a 3.20 that ranks them 12th.

Overall, 112 women’s teams and 42 men’s teams made the grade in Division 1.

Division II’s University of Bridgeport had the highest overall GPA of any team with a 3.65. The Division II men’s crown went to The University of Findlay at 3.42.

In D-III, The Hamilton College women had the highest GPA at 3.59. Oberlin College had the highest men’s GPA both in Division III and the entire NCAA at 3.60. Three NAIA schools were also honored: Morningside College (3.19) and Brenau University (3.15) for women’s, and the University of the Cumberlands (3.07) for the men.
