Cseh and Oeztuerk Set Meet Records in Luxembourg

Two meet records fell on the final day of the Euro Meet in Luxembourg.

Hungarian Laszlo Cseh won the men’s 100 butterfly posting a time of 52.57 beating his own meet record of 52.58, which he swam last year.

Konrad Czerniak of Poland collected the silver in a time of 52.91 followed by Victor Bromer of Denmark who finished in a time of 53.24.

The second record of the evening was set by German Sonnele Oeztuerk. Oeztuerk had a very strong morning swim posting a time of 2:11.38 breaking the meet record of 2:11.67, which was set by Daryna Zevina in 2013.

In the final Oeztuerk broke her own record, dominating the field and finishing in a time of 2:10.36. Brittany Horton of Great Britain finished second in a time of 2:15.30 followed by Spaniard Africa Zamorano who touched in a time of 2:16.59.

The evening started with a very exciting women’s 400 freestyle.

 Melanie Costa turned at the 200 meter mark first in a time of 2:04.09. She was followed by Alice Mizzau of Italy who hit the halfway point in a time of 2:04.49 while Mireia Belmonte turned in a time of 2:06.25.

The second half of the race went almost to plan for Belmonte. She gain ground on both Mizzau and Costa almost every length, until she pulled within half a second of Mizzau and just over a second behind Costa with 50 meters to go.

Belmonte finished with a final split of 29.93, which was enough to over take Mizzau, but not enough to catch Costa who touched first in a time of 4:10.16.

Belmonte hit the wall in a time of 4:10.41 followed by Mizzau who finished in a time of 4:11.12.

Hungarian Zsuzsanna Jakabos was the only woman to break the one minute barrier in the 100 butterfly, winning the event in a time of 59.99. Spaniard Judith Igancio finished second in a time of 1:00.34 followed by Jan Zinnecher of Germany who hit the wall in a time of 1:01.49.

German Marco Koch and Michael Jamieson of Great Britain had another great battle, this time in the 100 breaststroke. Jamieson took the first 50 meters out in a time of 29.26 followed by Koch who turned in a time of 29.45.

The second half of the race belonged to the German who finished with a winning time of 1:01.73. Jamieson finished second in a time of 1:01.96, barley holding off a fast charging James Wilby of Great Britain who hit the wall in a time of 1:01.97.

After taking the 200 breaststroke on Saturday Jessica Vall of Spain returned to the pool to collect the gold in the 100 posting a time of 1:08.67. German Julia Willers finished second in a time of 1:10.62 followed by her fellow countrywoman Marlene Huether who touched in a time of 1:10.71.

Miguel Duran of Spain took the men’s 400 freestyle in a time of 3:53.52. Jacob Heidtmann of Germany finished second in a time of 3:54.65 followed by Velimir Stepanovic of Serbia who touched in a time of 3:56.85.

Paul Biedermann Germany collected his third gold of the competition, winning the men’s 100 freestyle in a time of 50.03. He was followed by Mohamed Samy of Egypt who finished in a time of 50.51 followed by Magnus Westermann of Denmark who posted a time of 50.91.

Nina Kost of Germany took the women’s event finishing a time of 56.18. Jakabos led the race at the halfway mark turning in a time of 26.88, but could not hold off Kost, collecting the silver in a time of 56.23.

Julie Meynen of Luxembourg finished third in a time of 56.35.

Hungarian Gabor Balog took the men’s 200 backstroke with ease recording a time of 2:02.38. Spaniard Alejandro Garcia finished second in a time of 2:04.86 followed by Mark Fischer of Germany who finished in a time of 2:05.65.

Laura Riedmann won the women’s 50 backstroke posting a time of 29.46. Mandy Feldbinder finished second in a time of 29.68 and Selina Hocke who touched in a time of 29.87.

Carl Schwarz took the men’s event in a time of 25.66 followed by Balog who posted a 26.00. Joe Elwood finished third in a time of 26.34.
