Cseh Sets Hungarian Record on Day 3 Hungarian SC Nats

On Day 3 of Hungarian Short Course Nationals in Szazhalombatta, Laszlo Cseh was a triple winner, breaking one of his own national records along the way, while Katinka Hosszu continued her streak from the previous day of entering and winning all events.

Cseh’s record would lead off the finals, he swam 23.26 to break his own record. That record was a “suit era” time from 2009 and stood at 23.29. He would go on to win both the 200 fly (1:52.36) as well as the 100 IM (53.23). That 200 fly puts Cseh way ahead of the current world best in the 200 fly:

Once again Hosszu did not really come close to any of her national or world records, but she still put up impressive times in another heavy program. She won the 50 backstroke (27.17), 50 breaststroke (31.20), 200 freestyle (1:54.37), 100 butterfly (57.66), 200 breaststroke (2:23.69) and of course the 100 IM 58.77. Only one other swimmer, rising Dutch star Marrit Steenbergen, has gone under 1:00 in the IM this year:

The rest of the results went as expected. Daniel Gyurta won the 100 breaststroke handily in 58.23, Krisztian Takacs won the 100 freestyle in 48.78. Peter Bernek won a nail-biter in the 200 backstroke (1:53.06) over David Foldhazi and Gabor Balog. Foldhazi would finish second twice on the day, once to Bernek and then later to Cseh in the 100 IM. The 200 backstroke also featured a good junior swim from Daniel Sos, he recorded a 1:56.85. That time would have put the 17 year old in the world top five had he not been bested by four of his countrymen:

I have a soft spot in my heart for Cseh. I am rooting for him next summer.
