Laszlo Cseh won 4 gold medals and 3 silvers at the Hungarian University Nationals over the weekend.
Cseh started the meet with three straight runner-up finishes, to Krisztian Takacs in the 50m free, Bence Gyarfas in the 100m free and Gabor Financsek in the 100 breast.
But then the multi-time Olympian went on a tear, winning three straight events and a relay in just a short window. He won the 100m butterfly in a touchout, then dominated the 400m free and 200m IM before joining teammates to win the special relay – an extra event exclusive to the University Nationals, the 10x50m freestyle relay.
For the women, Agnes Mutina and Evelyn Verrasto each won three gold medals at the meet.
The International University Sports Federation reported that the meet moved along extremely quickly – Cseh’s first three races reportedly took place within the span of a half-hour, and several swimmers commented afterwards on the training benefits of such a short meet as a training lead-in to the European Championships later this month.
