The men’s 50 freestyle final will see five Olympians battle it out for the top spot Anthony Ervin, Cullen Jones, Marcelo Chierighini, Ricky Berens and Tyler McGill will all be vying for the championship tonight.
Ervin qualified first in a time of 22.43 followed by Cullen Jones who posted a time of 22.61. Marcelo Chierighini who has posted the fastest time of the top eight so far this year, recording a 21.88 at Maria Lenk qualified third recording a time of 22.69.

Why is there no moustache on his left (right on screen) side?
Well you’re right that he has seemed a little inconsistent over the years. Even his mustache is inconsistent, unless he just shaved in the dark this morning 😉 Had he been a bit more consistent in his training last quadrennium, he would have done even better in London. If you listen carefully to his words and look at his non-verbal communication at the end of this interview, he still sounds ambivalent and not fully enthused; at this point he makes it sound like he’s continuing more for his coach than himself. Time will tell.

“A little Inconsistent” is harsh? I’m not saying anything he hasn’t already said himself, especially about his training for London. A lot of us big CJ fans wish he had put in 100% to reach his full potential. On the other hand, he may not have lasted this long if he did.

To be honest, I often count Cullen out. “We” all do. He seems elusive and inconsistent but that’s actually not true. He’s always there. He’s certainly not disrespected, but he’s a bad dude and deserves more respect as an athlete (not just a community service spokesperson). He often makes a fool out of me and my predictions. best of luck CJ!
