Cumberlands Wins Third Consecutive MSC Women’s Championship

Cumberlands (Ky.) won its third-straight Mid-South Conference women’s swimming championship at the conclusion of 2017 MSC Swimming Championships at the Kingsport Aquatics Center on Saturday night.

Cumberlands swept the individual honors following the event as Christina Klouda was named the MSC Swimmer of the Year for the second-straight season, while Grace Moffat earned MSC Freshman of the Year honors.

The Patriots finished the championships with 490 points, while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) recorded 397 total points. Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) finished third overall with 333 points, followed by Campbellsville (Ky.) with 246 points.

Loyola (La.) completed its first MSC Championships with 153 points and Life (Ga.) grabbed 71 points. Bethel (Tenn.) rounded out the meet with 17 team points.

The finals on day three of the championships started with Lindsey Wilson’s Emily Wood winning the 1,650-yard freestyle after notching a time of 18:18.26.

Klouda won her third individual title of the championships after winning the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:06.77.

The Blue Raiders won their second event of the night after Jessica Macdonald posted a time of 52.46 in the 100-yard freestyle to win the event, by just over a second.

Lindsey Wilson continued its strong start to the night with its third swimmer winning an individual title in the final session. Ines Khiyara won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.66, which set a new championship record.

Moffat swept the butterfly events at the event winning the 200-yard butterfly in championship record time, 2:08.46.

The Blue Raiders capped off the MSC Championships winning its fourth event of the evening as the team of Ronni Borders, Bailey Seitz, Khiyara and Macdonald won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:35.41.

Each team now sends its qualified swimmers to the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Georgia from March 1-4.
