CWPA Releases 2015 Men’s Varsity Week 11 Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California-Los Angeles, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Brown University retain the No. 1 positions as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2015 Men’s Varsity Week 11/November 18 National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Polls.

The undisputed top team in the land, the Bruins are once again a unanimous top selection.  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which captured the Division III title back at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament via a 16-14 victory over then No. 1 Whittier College, remains at No. 1 in the Division III rankings.

In the CWPA Top 10 league poll, the Northern Division Champion Bears of Brown University withstand another try byPrinceton University and Harvard University to take over the top position on the East Coast heading into the league’s championship weekend.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), MPSF, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2015 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 11/November 18)

The 2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion Bruins of theUniversity of California-Los Angeles maintain the No. 1 position in the 2015 Week 11/November 18 National Top 20 Poll .

Similar to the Week 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 Polls, the Bruins (100 points) are once again a consensus top pick after tallying 99 points in the Week 2 balloting.

For the fourth week in a row in the aftermath of the select games that occurred in the past seven days.

The University of the Pacific (95 points), the University of California (90 points), the University of Southern California(86 points), Stanford University (80 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (75 points), the University of California-Irvine (69 points), Long Beach State University (66 points) and the University of California-Davis (54 points) remain at No. 1-to-9, while Brown University (51 points) inches in front of Princeton University (50 points) to take over at No. 10.

The Tigers slip back to No. 11 with Harvard University (48 points) and Pepperdine University (44 points) breaking out of a tie at No. 12 from last week to now stand at No. 12 and 13, respectively.

Loyola Marymount University (35 points) clings to the No. 14 position for another week, while Bucknell University (23 points) takes over at No. 15.  The University of California-San Diego (20 points) remains at No. 16 with the United States Air Force Academy (19 points) and Santa Clara University (19 points) tying at No. 17.

 

Johns Hopkins University (16 points) and California Baptist University (6 points) complete the Top 20.

2015 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 11/November 18)

In a week in which the East Coast teams were stagnant and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams were the lone small college squads in action,Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (97 points) maintains top billing at No. 1 in the Week 11/November 18 National Division III Top 10 Poll.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps stands as only one of two teams in the Top 10 to retain its sole control of its position from the Week 10/November 11 voting joining No. 10 Washington & Jefferson College (49 points) as eight of the positions in the rankings change hands in the latest results.

Whittier College (90 points) acquires company in the runner-up spot as Johns Hopkins University (90 points) ties with the Poets at No. 2.

Chapman University (87 points) and the University of Redlands (82 points) trade the No. 4 and 5 slots, while theMassachusetts Institute of Technology (75 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (68 points) rise and drop to No. 6 and 7, respectively.

The University of La Verne (60 points) and California Lutheran University (55 points) exchange the No. 8 and 9 spots with Washington & Jefferson sticking at No. 10 to withstand a challenge from Occidental College (22 points) which received votes.

2015 Men’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 (Week 11/November 18)

Northern Division winner and 2014 league champion Brown University hangs on as the top team on the East Coast according to the Week 11/November 18 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll entering the league’s championship weekend.

The Bears (98 points) remain on top of the league standings by three points over Southern Division Champion Princeton University (95 points) and six points against Northern Division runner-up Harvard University (92 points).

Southern Division runner-up Johns Hopkins University (84 points) holds on at No. 4, while Southern Division Third Place finisher the United States Naval Academy (77 points) and Bucknell University (77 points) are the lone change of the week by tying at No. 5.  A week ago, Navy held the No. 5 position over then No. 6 Bucknell.

St. Francis College Brooklyn (72 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (61 points), Fordham University(50 points) and George Washington University (49 points) complete the Top 10 with Mercyhurst University (11 points) and Washington & Jefferson College (11 points) also receiving votes.
