D1 William and Mary Receives Verbal from 2017 Futures Finalist Connor Mes

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Connor Mes – a freestyler from Carslbad, CA – has announced his verbal commitment to swim at the College of William and Mary beginning in the 2020-2021 season. Mes is currently a senior at Carlsbad High School and a member of Rancho San Dieguito’s year-round club team.

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at William & Mary! I knew it was the place for me the second I stepped onto campus. Thank you to the amazing coaches, the team and my family for the opportunity to join the Tribe! #rolltribe.”

As a junior at Carlsbad High School, Mes competed at the CA CIF San Diego Section I Championships. Individually, he earned the bronze medal in the 200 free (1:43.47), and he placed 6th in the prelims heats of the 500 free (4:44.87). Mes took part in his school’s 200 free and medley relays, which both placed 9th. Mes anchored the free relay in a time of 22.36, coming from behind to out-touch Helix Charter High School’s relay. Carlsbad concluded the meet with a third-place finish behind Torrey Pines and Poway.

Mes was one of the nine members of Rancho San Dieguito to compete at the 2019 Futures Championship at Mount Hood. Mes swam the 200 and 400 free, 100 fly, 400 IM, and three relays. He went personal best times in the 100 fly (1:01.27) and the 200 free (1:57:34) on the first leg of the 800 free relay. Rancho San Dieguito placed 5th at the end of the meet, only 1 point behind Santa Maria Swim Club.

Top SCY Times:

  • 500 free – 4:31.98
  • 1000 free – 9:32.73
  • 1650 free – 16:06.73
  • 400 IM – 4:07.93
  • 200 free – 1:42.58
  • 200 fly – 1:56.93

Mes’ top times would have placed him in the top 16 in 4 events at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. In the fall, he will be training alongside distance swimmer James Mostofi. He will be joining fly and back specialist Kent Codding as a member of the class of 2024.
