Kosuke Hagino was the story of the Asian Games for Japanese swimming, but his teammate Daiya Seto stole the spotlight on day 2 of the Short Course World Championships.
Seto rose to the top of the men’s 400 IM final, taking gold over the top of Hagino while breaking his Japanese and Asian records in the race.
Seto went 3:56.33, just a tenth under the continental mark Hagino set earlier this year at 3:56.48. Seto held the mark prior to Hagino, though, and was certainly chomping at the bit for his chance to take it back.
Both men are closing in on the world record, but still have some work to do to top Ryan Lochte‘s 3:55.50 set at the 2010 World Championships.
Looks like we crowned the wrong Emperor!!! Apologies Seto San, you are rock hard!
