Daiya Seto Successfully Adds 3rd Individual Olympic Event

2021 JAPAN SWIM (OLYMPIC TRIALS)

The men’s 200m fly event was one of the highlights of this entire Japanese Olympic Trials meet.

An impressive 4 men dipped under 1:56, with one of them being already-Olympics-qualified Daiya Seto. Seto slid into the silver medal position in the 2fly tonight behind winner Tomoru Honda.

For Seto, the 2fly is added to his 200m IM/400m IM schedule, while it represents Honda’s sole individual event for this summer’s Games.

The other individual name new to the unofficial roster is Miho Teramura. The 26-year-old put up the fastest 200m IM of her life to upset national record holder Yui Ohashi for the gold en route to qualifying for the Olympic Games.

After claiming the 3rd seed in last night’s semifinal in a relaxed 2:12.42, Teramura turned it on to bust out a winning effort of 2:09.55, dropping .31 from her previous career-quickest in the process. With her effort tonight, she remains Japan’s 4th fastest performer all-time.

Placing 2nd, Ohashi adds this 200m IM to her 400m IM qualification nabbed on night 1 here.
