It should be 200 breast instead of 100 breast lol
Are results posted anywhere?
Seems like he is peaking with that YMCA program. He should go to Texas with a real program
High school junior: goes 1:40 in the 200 back
Coach Pat: “washed”
What a time to be alive.
I have been to the pool where he trains many times – Cumberland MD. Small YMCA team pools are mainly used for teaching young kids how to swim and water aerobics for the elderly. The pool is very shallow at one end and kept at a very high temperature. His training will stay the same with old methods and he will start to fall behind. Especially if he stays put for the next couple years.
Don’t get me wrong, he is still very fast for his age, but he will not have anymore needed improvements for the next years to come…
Coach Pat, a lot of people are downvoting, but I know exactly what you mean. When I was a swimmer, I exceled in a YMCA program, but then hit a plateau when I was 15. The water was too hot and the air quality was awful. Once I switched to a USA swimming program, I started dropping time again. It’s only a matter of time before Diehl switches.
I feel that training at many top tier ymca programs is comparable to usa swimming clubs
You realize he swims at the only pool within a 90 min radius of his house. So, if you want to be his driver and bring him somewhere, I’m sure his folks won’t mind.
There are plenty of “top” clubs known for producing kids who don’t get any faster in college because they’re either finished products or already burnt out. Seems like this young man is doing just fine where he’s at.
I guess you could say he’s the real—*comically long cane pulls me off stage right*
