Daniel Wiffen vlogged his trip as the Irish Olympic team arrived in Antalya, Turkey to begin their Olympic training camp.
Ireland is sending its largest-ever Olympic swimming team of 12 swimmers to Paris, consisting of 6 men and 6 women.
During a training camp session, Wiffen mentioned completing a set of 30 100s best average, achieving a personal best within the set. However, he declined to disclose the specific time.
Wiffen is coming off a significant amount of momentum following the 2024 World Championships back in February, where he won the 800 and 1500 meter Freestyle and became Ireland’s first-ever World Champion in swimming.
He also holds the World Record in the Short Course 800 meter Freestyle that he set in December.
Wiffen would become Ireland’s first man ever to win a gold medal in swimming at an Olympic Games.
Wiffen is also competing in the 10k Open Water race in Paris taking advantage of a new World Aquatics rule. Any swimmer who has achieved an Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT) or FINA A cut in the 800 or 1500 meter Freestyle events and competes in those events at the Games is eligible to also compete in the 10k open water race, provided it does not exceed their country’s two-per-country limit.

100s PB at what effort? How measure effort…lactate? HR? talk test? perceived exertion? intensity of respiration? So many secrets swimmers and their coaches keep to themselves. What a sport!
Did he say that he also did 200’s on 2:00 interval? Depending on how many he fid, that is crazy
I think Danielle hill’s events in the list in the article might not be right – I don’t think she’s a breaststroker.
Think something got offset in the copy/paste. Fixed it now.
So what do we think he averaged? Under :56?
.introduce yourself, tell him that you are doing the a research on irl swimming, and ask him.
Why would Ireland, a country that is ~650km from France, have a training camp in a city that is ~2,500km away from Paris
This is not the olympic precamp with team Ireland. This was loughborough`s just «normal» training camp at the start of june
That makes sense now. I was wondering why Team Ireland would train in a place of 1+ hour difference from Paris.
To get away from distractions.
It’s a great facility.
Looking forward to seeing the 800/1500. Rooting for BF, but surely gotta respect what this young man is accomplishing.
Hoping for some epic showdowns.
PB for 30×100’s best average, 1500 WR watch surely. He is really on the cusp of something monumental, not only personally but for the whole of Ireland. Truely wishing him all the best.
