Danielle Valley Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

Wisconsin’s Danielle Valley was named the Big Ten swimmer of the week for her performance against USC. She won the 1,000 (9:43.37) and 500 free at the meet (4:44.81). Freshman of the week went to Valley’s teammate Jess Unicomb. She placed 2nd in the 100 fly (55.36) and 200 back (1:58.44). Rutgers’ Addison Walkowiak won the one-meter event against Miami and Kansas to earn diver of the week.

Swimmer of the Week

Jr. – Bradenton, Fla. – Lakewood Ranch

  • Collected a pair of first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:43.37) and 500-yard freestyle (4:44.81), and added a second-place touch in the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.43) in a dual meet at USC
  • Career-best time in the 1,000-yard freestyle currently ranks fourth in the nation
  • Time in the 500-yard freestyle is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark
  • Earns her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week: Chase Kinney (Oct. 21, 2015)

 

Diver of the Week

Addison Walkowiak, Rutgers

So. – Ballston Spa, N.Y. – Ballston Spa

  • Won the one-meter event with a score of 310.80 and placed second on three-meter with a score of 296.20 in a meet against Miami (Florida) and Kansas
  • Scores in both events are NCAA Zone qualifying marks
  • Earns her second career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Rutgers Diver of the Week: Addison Walkowiak (Nov. 11, 2015)

 

Freshman of the Week
Jess Unicomb, Wisconsin

Gold Coast, Australia – All Saints Anglican School

  • Collected a trio of second-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (55.36), 200-yard backstroke (1:58.44) and 200-yard medley relay (1:40.92), and added a third-place touch in the 100-yard backstroke (55.11) in a dual meet against USC
  • Time in the 200-yard backstroke is an NCAA provisional qualifying time
  • Earns her third career Freshman of the Week honor
  • Last Wisconsin Freshman of the Week: Jess Unicomb (Dec. 9, 2015)
