At the 2012 LEN European Short Course Championships in Chartres, France athletes such as Rikke Moller Petersen, Lotte Friis, Jeanette Ottesen Gray and Viktor Bromer lead the Danish team to a second place finish in the medal standings. The Danes finished with 12 medals (6 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze) with only the French finishing outdoing them with 29 medals (12 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze).
This year the Danes hope to improve their results on home soil as the event is being held in Herning, Denmark from December 12th-15th.
Earlier this week the meet organizers announced that Denmark would not only be represented by their star athletes, but that the competitions mascot would be a Danish Viking warrior.
The viking, who is still without a name, has been created in the spirit that the swimmers are just as tough as a real viking.
The official announcement can be found on the competition website
The new mascot has been a hit so far with young swimmers at the Jutland regional championships this weekend… https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.397093380413942.1073741828.184951588294790&type=1
