Misty Hyman and Rob Butcher bring us Day 2 highlights from the 2013 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at Mission Viejo. Several Olympians made it to the event including 5-Time Olympian Dara Torres.
USMS is a national membership-operated nonprofit organization that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 Masters swimmers across the country. These benefits include insurance, SWIMMER magazine, sanctioned events, and many others. USMS and its 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSCs) provide direct support to more than 1,500 smaller clubs and workout groups. Structure and organization of USMS programs vary and are driven by factors such as pool availability, instructor or coach availability, community support, and finances. The majority of locations offering USMS programs have coaches on deck. Coaches write workouts and provide feedback and instruction.

the advantage of masters over virtually any meet of its caliber is in addition to seeing lots of current and past top notch swimmers, you are actually in the water right there with them. I swam a free relay 2 lanes over from Cullen jones, nick brunelli, josh Schneider and david marsh. i was 3rd coach marsh anchored, so we were pretty close together. I understand and it must be great to see all these past champions and famous names.
But if I had to choose, as spectator, I would go to the juniors to see the future of US swimming.
Out of interest, what was Marsh’s time? 🙂
This competition is putting me on the edge of my seat! Why would they put on two fantastic meets, Juniors and Masters, during the same week 10 miles apart? How can all the fans possibly catch all the action!!
I would go to the juniors. 🙂
