DART Swimming’s Ayden Tan Takes Down 10 And Under 100 IM and 200 IM NAGs

At the Sierra Nevada Swimming 14&U Short Course Championships earlier this month, DART Swimming’s Ayden Tan took down not just one, but two 10 and under boys National Age Group (NAG) Records.

Tan, who is coached by Matt Paige & Reed Miller, cracked the records in the IM events. In prelims of the 100 IM, Tan clocked a 1:00.89 to take just under a second off his own best time and clip the record by about three tenths. Ronald Dalmacio held the previous record with a 1:01.21 swum in 2015. Prior to Dalmacio, Michael Andrew owned the NAG with a 1:01.31. Tan was slightly slower in finals and posted a 1:01.42.

In the 200 IM, Tan swam a 2:11.13 in prelims to dip below his best time and the record. However, he came back in finals and threw down a 2:10.12 to take another second off his personal best and bring the record down even further. The previous mark stood at 2:11.79 from 2017, and was done by Trevan Valena. Tan got the edge on Valena’s time largely on the fly leg, as he was over a second quicker in that 50 alone.

Split Comparison:

Tan was the highpoint award winner for his age group with 77 points overall. In addition to the IM events, he also won the 200 free (1:57.49), 50 back (27.39), 100 back (58.87), 50 free (25.10), and 100 free (55.89). All but one of his swims were personal bests, with the exception being the 100 freestyle.

Other Standout Swimmers:

• 13-year-old Mikayla Tan, the older sister of Ayden, won the highpoint award for the girls’ 13-14 age group. She won all seven of her individual events, highlighted by best times in the 50 free (24.38), 200 free (1:53.28), and 200 fly (2:04.14). Her 200 fly time ranks 5th this year among 13-year-old girls, while her 200 free puts her 18th.
• Aidan Collins, also from DART Swimming, won all seven of his events in the 13-14 age group as well. Collins’ meet was highlighted by a 15-second drop in the 400 IM, where he clocked a 4:10.41 to beat Jordan Ragland by just 0.04. Collins also dropped over a second in both the 100 fly (52.36) and 200 IM (1:57.92).
• 11-year-old Lauren Lonsdale topped the 11-12 girls’ age group with six victories. Lonsdale swam the 3rd-fastest time for 11-year-old girls this year in the 200 breaststroke, as she dropped over 9-seconds to log a 2:30.49. She also dropped over two seconds in the 1000 (11:17.81), and over a second in the 100 and 200 IM (1:03.36/2:17.37).
