Day 1 Picks Contest: Ye Shiwen Wreaks Havoc

Some shockers disrupted the picks on the first day of competition in London, but Mitchske came out on top, well ahead of the pack and scoring 29 of a possible 39 points. Mitschske will win a $25 Gift Card to SwimOutlet.com.

Upsets rocked the picks on Day 1: not one of the almost 600 entries picked Thiago Pereira for second in the 400 IM. Only one entrant picked Ye Shiwen (swimfan) to win gold in the 400 IM and less than ten picked her for a medal at all. Clearly swimfan knew something that we didn’t.

Picking Phelps in the 400 IM was certainly a regrettable decision for many, as his fourth place finish earned no points at all. The 400m Freestyle on the men’s side was generally well picked, with most having a combination of Sun Yang and Tae Hwan Park for 1-2.

The top few scorers from Day 1 are posted below. Overall results for all entrants are available here. For those waiting for relay results, the first round will be posted tomorrow morning, after the finals of the Men’s 4×100 Free Relay tonight.
