Day 3 of Maccabiah Games Bring More Gold for USA

The USA continues to dominate the 2013 Maccabiah Games this week after day 3 of competition concludes.

The women’s 100m backstroke brought team USA silver and gold, as Lauren Greenberg (1:13.03) and Jacqueline Levere (1:15.73) take second and third (respectively) behind Israel’s Anastasia Korotkov, who touched in at 1:10.52.

In the 13-16 girl’s 100m backstroke, USA’s Isabella Goldsmith claimed gold, touching in at 1:04.70. Goldsmith took first ahead of Israel’s Guy Shilon (1:05.22) and Shahar Menachem (1:05.59).

Adding yet another gold to her collection after the women’s 100m breaststroke was Andi Murez. Murez touched in at 1:04.38, ahead of team USA mate Leah Goldman. Goldman took silver at 1:04.79. Finishing third was Israel’s Michal Liberman. This was Murez’s third gold of the meet.

The excitement for team USA didn’t stop there, though. Shortly after Murez & Goldman took 1-2 in the women’s event, USA’s Goldsmith and Peyton Greenberg did the same in the girl’s 13-16 100m breaststroke. Goldsmith added another gold to her possession on day 3, touching in at 1:13.01. Peyton Greenberg, from Louisville, KY, will bring home a silver medal (1:13.98). Israel’s Diana Nikanorov took bronze at 1:14.00.

USA’s Jeremy Babinet also brought home bronze in the men’s 14-16 100m breaststroke, taking third behind the duo from Israel Edan Dotan (58.46) and Daniel Kaplan (58.50). Babinet touched in at 1:00.63.

Israel’s Martina Marks clocked in 1-second ahead of USA’s Marlee Ehrlich in the women’s 400m freestyle. Marks finished at a 4:20.09, while Ehrlich was 4:21.09. Roni Bove from Israel was third at 4:27.45.

On the men’s side, team Israel swept the 400m freestyle, with Ido Haber (3:56.80) taking the lead, followed by Elad Landman (4:01.58) and Gil Kiesler (4:03.81).

Morgan Smith and Charlotte Rosenberg, both from team USA, took second and third (respectively) in the girl’s 13-16 400m freestyle behind Israel’s Tali Lemcoff. Lemcoff clocked in at 4:22.20, Smith touched at 4:23.20, and Rosenberg finished at 4:29.19.

Judson Howard dominated the men’s 14-16 400m freestyle, finishing almost a full 6-seconds ahead of Israel’s Rotem David and Daniel Namir. With Howard taking gold at 4:05.68, David takes silver at 4:11.06, and Namir takes bronze at 4:18.33.
