Kawęcki and Czerniak Both Break Records on Day 4 of Polish Nationals

On the day 4 of competition, Radosław Kawęcki broke the Polish National Record in the 100m backstroke, touching the pads in 49.23, taking 0.41 seconds off of his previous record (49.64), swam at the 2015 European Short Course Championships earlier this month. Tomasz Polewka finished the race just behind him, touching 2nd in a time of 50.70.

Another record breaking swim of the night came from Konrad Czerniak, who won the 50m butterfly in a best time of 22.64, defeating his previous record of 22.77, done in 2011. Paweł Korzeniowski was 2nd in 23.23 and 3rd was 18-year old Paweł Sendyk who clocked in in 23.37, a time that was good for a new Polish National Junior Record.

Another Junior National Record was broken in the men’s 200m breaststroke, when Jacek Arentewicz won the event in 2:07.00.

More records were smashed on the women’s side, when 18-year old Dominika Sztandera won the women’s 100m breast in both a National Record and National Junior Record time of 1:05.37.

Alicja Tchórz also had an impressive evening, winning the women’s 200m backstroke in a time of 2:05.07, just off of her national record time of 2:04.98, done in Netanya earlier this month. Ludwig Szynal was 2nd, finishing shortly behind her in a time of 2:05.94.

The women’s 100m butterfly was dominated by Anna Dowgiert, winning the event in almost a full second ahead of the field, touching in 58.10, just shy of the national record, 57.54.

Aleksandra Urbańczyk took the victory in women’s 50m free 24.01, just missing the 6-year old national record time of 23.98, done by Agata Korc.

In the women’s 400 medley relay, another national record fell when the Juvenia Wrocław team of Tchórz, Paula Żukowska, Sztandera and Weronika Góreck won the event in a time of 4:03.52.

Other event winners for the night were:

  • Women’s 400m IM: Paulina Piechota (4:44.72)
  • Women’s 2o0m freestyle: Wioletta Orczykowska (1:58.29)
  • Men’s 100m IM: Michał Chudy (54.18)
  • Men’s 200m freestyle: Kacper Majchrzak (1:42.76)
