Jack Conger and James Guy are among the additions to the American and British 4×200 free relays.
Conger will join Blake Pieroni and Townley Haas, who swam the individual event, and Zane Grothe who had the fastest prelim split.
Other additions include Aleksandr Krasnykh (RUS) and Mack Horton (AUS).
- USA (Pieroni, Haas, Conger, Grothe)
- Italy (Megli, Detti, Magnini, Dotto)
- Russia (Dovgalyuk, Vekovishchev, Izotov, Krasnykh)
- Australia (Lewis, Horton, Graham, Cartwright)
- Great Britain (Milne, Grainger, Scott, Guy)
- Netherlands (Stolk, Weertman, Pijnenburg, Brzoskowski)
- Japan (Hagino, Ehara, Amai, Matsumoto)
- Poland (Majchrzak, Zaborowski, Kaluzynski, Switkowski)
So the two Texas boys rip 1:44/1:45 while the Indiana guys go 1:46s with Grothe blowing the huge lead he was given. Eddie can coach a 200 Free.
You called it.
No doubt about this: GB have arguably their strongest team on show; Italy can do well; America….well, it’s not the strongest they’ve fielded is it!? Room for growth on their roster for life after the greatest, Phelips, and Ryan’S absence. WHAT A CHAMPS THE US team are having though!! Who knows what such buoyancy could do….Any medal would just stack their pile ever higher!! Balat…King…Manuel…..thsee are textbook examples of how to deal with high octane competition!!
whoever put this finals relay and order together should be fired right now.
Disappointed to not see dressel in here
I don’t know if Grothe could hold off Guy or Cartwright.
Guy just swam the 100 fly, though, that’ll be a fairly tight turnaround between that and the relay for him I think. And what a 100 fly it was!
Also EBMARAH, don’t forget Hoosier Relays, too! Blake will be a senior at IU and we claim Zane as an honorary Hoosier, having been here for a few years. Go Hoosiers, Hook ’em, and go USA!!
It would be fun to put together USA all-star relays in SCY and aim for under 6:00 (someday!) in an 800, or 2:40 in a 400, not to mention the possibilities for Medleys.
Texas Relays!
This feels like GB’s race to lose, unless Haas outsplits Guy and Conger pops off something crazy.
