Editor’s Note: SwimSwam is not a voting party in these rankings, and we post them as a courtesy to the CSCAA. We put out our own biweekly power rankings as well.

The Cal Golden Bears have vaulted from #6 into the top spot of the men’s CSCAA poll after a win over #19 Wisconsin and a strong performance in their annual triple distance meet against Stanford.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the rankings is that Georgia has stayed at #4 after winning a dual meet against the Florida Gators on October 31st and Georgia Tech on November 7th, but the idle Wolfpack, who beat the Bulldogs in a dual meet back in mid-October, have slid down to #6 without any swimming competition since the last poll was released.

Also of note, the Utah Utes, after beating the unranked Arizona Wildcats for the second-straight season, check in at #23 in this week’s poll. The Utes hold the top spot in the Pac-12 in four of the five NCAA-scoring individual freestyle events.

CSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Rankings Supported by TYR

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Team Rankings are compiled by nine CSCAA-member coaches and one media member.   The rankings will be released on a weekly basis throughout the 2014-15 season, alternating weeks between a men’s and women’s team ranking.

The CSCAA DI Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll.  The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Ranking are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.

Arizona is a top 10 team.

Cordes and Tandy will score enough to be a top-10 team at NCAAs but they haven’t raced well at all yet. The guy’s team is definitely down from past years. I disagree strongly with this statement

They are definitely better than #5 Louisville, 8 Indiana, and #9 North Carolina. Your probably right about it being a down year, but they should still finish top ten. I predict a 6th place finish for Zona.

I’m pretty certain the pollsters are encouraged to heavily weight dual meet performance in the polling period. If a team didn’t compete – or competed poorly – during that time, they may drop in the rankings or be left off entirely.

Also, how has NC State dropped? Beating Georgia Bulldogs but are below them in the poll. Not sure how that worked out…

Confused how Utah is ranked outside of top 10. Easily one of the better teams thus far… Based on this year’s results especially

No depth outside Keraly, soedel, and Fernandez….. Duel meets mean nothing when you rest a ton to beat a weak Arizona team

Pretty sure Utah didn’t rest at all for Zona and no jammers for sure. Agree Utah has less depth in freestyle sprints this year, which could hurt some relays. Also, as I suspect in these ratings, last year’s results are being factored in, and Utah by all measures underperformed at NCAA’s..

They rested the past two years for them, I never said they wore suits, just that they rested a couple days (3-4, I have a VERY good and reliable source that is close to the program). They did it because of their fall training trip (instead of christmas training they go during fall break). It begins their ‘peak performance’ phase heading into their winter taper meet where they go all out and swim ridiculous times, but then they have a hard time hitting them again at conference/NCAAs (Soedel and kiraly were a little faster last year at conference).

Soedel has a history of underperforming when it counts, but is learning. A few years ago, he would go 1:39 in the… Read more »

Texas is definitely a better team than Michigan. Louisville is ranked too high. USC and Alabama need to be higher

Michigan #2 lol.

Just looking at the PAC 12 teams Cal deserves the No. 1 ranking at this point. USC will be much higher than 13th by the end of the season. Scratching my head on Stanford being ranked 10th currently. That’s got to be on past performance not this year’s results. Utah should be ranked higher at this point, they would blast Princeton, Minny, PSU, Mizzou, VT, and possible Wisky right now both in swimming & diving. Notre Dame at 25th? Why?

Saw Cal and Wisconsin compete against each other last week and it wasn’t pretty. Didn’t see the Stanford/Wisky meet, but if Cal’s number 1 right now and Wisconsin’s number 19 the gap between the top tier teams and everyone else is nearly as pronounced on the men’s side as it’s been on the women’s side for awhile.
