NEWARK, Del. –The Delaware swimming and diving teams earned victories over St. Francis Brooklyn Friday afternoon by a 188-101 final on the men’s side and a 161-110 advantage for the women in Rawstrom Natatorium on senior day.

“Our Blue Hens had a great meet and it was a fantastic day to send off our seniors with a very good win,” said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. “The team raced very well and showed depth in some of the events we are looking into doing at CAA’s. It was a good preparation for our dual meets tomorrow and next week.”

Olivia DeGroffEllie JoganiKevin Basch and Ryan Daniel were each competing for the final time at home in their Blue Hen careers.

The Blue Hens got off to a fast start, winning both the opening 200 yard medley relays before sophomore Evan Custance had a gritty win in the men’s 1000 yard free for the first individual win of the afternoon.

Custance also had a runner-up finishes in the 50 yard free and 500 yard free. Freshman Isaiah Bell was the winner of the 50 free in 21.94. Basch was first to the wall in the 200 free in 1:44.78 and was second in the 200 yard backstroke.

Freshman Zachary Coffing claimed the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:01.30 and junior Kevin Bargate was the winner of the 200 yard fly in 1:57.09 and the 100 fly in 50.73.

Sophomore Ean Kieley touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke in 1:59.40 and sophomore Ethan Holcroft was the winner of the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:11.57 while junior Jeb Darhower swam the 200 IM in 1:57.58 to win.

Delaware won each diving event with freshman Doug Vaca winning the men’s 1 and 3 meter dives and sophomore Jessica Antonio claiming the women’s.

Junior Audrey Duvall had the first individual win for the women in the 200 free with a career-best 1:55.01 and the 200 backstroke in 2:06.69. Sophomore Kayla Borrero was first to the wall in the 100 yard backstroke in 59.77.

Freshman Mira Selling won the 200 yard fly in 2:01.95 and Jogani was the winner in the 50 yard free in 25.57. Sophomore Allison Gozdan swam the 100 free in 54.78 to win and freshman Victoria Ambrose took home the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:27.57.

Catherine Erwin and Marrieta Gately were victorious in the 500 yard free in 5:10.41 and 100 yard fly in 59.40, respectively.

Delaware makes the quick turnaround, traveling to Seton Hall for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the Pirates at 1 p.m.

DOVER, DE – After coming back from an intensive training trip in Florida, the St. Francis College Brooklyn men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams went head-to-head with the University of Delaware for the first time in history.

The Terriers’ men’s squad was topped by Delaware, 188-101, while the women’s team was edged, 161-110. Men’s swimming team member Vladislav Sinyagovskii had an impressive debut for the Terriers. The native of Russia took first-place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.60.

Junior Ana Paula Montes de Oca took first-place in the 1000-yard freestyle, coming in with a time of 10:39.79. Belgium native Raphaelle Gregoire also had a strong race, putting up a time of 1:08.82, which earned her first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Senior Fanny Stromstedt came in right behind her taking second-place and touching the wall at 1:08.87. Stromstedt registered a total of three second-place finishes on the day as she also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2.27.70) and 200-yard IM (2:23.97.)

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Sophomore Dorde Spasic earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with an impressive time of 48.18. The Belgrade native also took third-place in the 200-yard freestyle.
  • The Veliu brothers both came in the top five in the 100-yard breaststroke. Meriton Veliu came in fourth-place with a time 1:05.05 and Albion Veliu came in at 1:07.29.
  • Hanne Romstad had an impressive second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 1:04.22.
  • Ginna Dammann gave it her all against Delaware and took second-place in 3-meter dive. Her final score in the event was 191.60.
  • Beatriz Gomes Angelo had a great finish to her 200-yard IM taking first-place with a time of 2:20.16.
  • Christensson notched a second-place finish in the 100-yard fly with a final time of 52.76.
  • Kavin Duraku took second-place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.58. Freshman Steven Dawkins snagged third-place for the Terriers in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.51.
  • To finish off the meet, both the men and women’s team took first-place in the 400-yard freestyle relays. The women’s A relay which consisted of Montes de Oca, Angelina GonzalezAngelica Stark, and Romstad finished the event in 3:49.15. Right after the women competed Andrew Gubarev, Christensson, Micah Wesselhoff, and Spasic came out on top with a time of 3:17.76.

The Terriers are back in action on Monday, January 20, as they host the Manhattan Jaspers at the SFC Aquatic Center for their first home meet of the New Year.
