NEWARK, Del. – After 47 days away from competitive action, the Delaware swimming and diving teams returned to Rawstrom Natatorium for a tri-meet with CAA foes Drexel and Northeastern.

The women edged Northeastern 155-142 while tying with Drexel at 149 a side. The men dropped the contest with the Dragons by a 195.5-105.5 final.

“Our Blue Hens had a fantastic day of racing today,” said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. “Overcoming sickness and injuries, they raced very well and showed how much our training in the last few weeks is paying off.”

Senior Kevin Basch picked up the first win of the afternoon for the Blue Hens, taking home the 1000 yard free with a season-best time of 9:34.68. He followed that up with a win in the 500 yard free in 4:41.31 and was part of the third-place 400 yard free relay team.

Junior Kevin Bargate was also a member of the 400 free relay squad and swam to a second-place finish in the 200 yard free. Sophomore Justin Sabo was a winner in the 200 yard butterfly in 1:55.14 and earned a third-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.

Junior Eric Veit earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke along with the third place position in the 400 yard free relay.

In diving, freshman Doug Vaca earned a win in the men’s 1-meter with a 270.30 score and a second-place finish in the 3-meter. Sophomore Jessica Antonio scored a 256.65 to win the women’s 1-meter and placed second in the 3-meter.

Freshman Mira Selling led the women’s charge and was first to the wall in the 500 yard free in 4:56.35. She picked up a second-place mark in the 200 free and was part of the second place 400 yard freestyle relay team.

Also on that squad was freshman Natalie Dobrzykowski who also earned a runner-up in the 100 yard free in front of Selling who placed third.

Junior Catherine Erwin earned two second-place finishes, placing second in both the 200 and 100 butterfly.

Delaware returns to action with the annual Senior Meet, Friday, Jan. 17 at Rawstrom Natatorium with races set to begin at 2 p.m. against Saint Francis Brooklyn.

NEWARK, Del. – Drexel Men’s Swimming and Diving cruised past fellow Colonial Athletic Association member Delaware, 192.5-105.5, on Saturday.

The Dragons (2-1, 1-0 CAA) won more than 10 events and reaped plenty of second- and third-place results as well.

The 200 medley relay team set the pace with an early victory. Jason ArthurZachary ValenzuelaJoe Short and T.J. Given combined to turn in a mark of 1:33.86.

Arthur and Valenzuela added individual victories as well. Arthur topped the field in the 200 free (1:42.74) and 200 breast (2:06.49). Valenzuela touched the wall at 58.10 to win the 100 breast and collected gold in the 200 IM (1:56.33).

Spencer Hill swept the backstroke events on Saturday with marks of 52.09 and 1:56.15 in the 100 and 200 back, respectively.

David Kneiss claimed first in the 50 free with a mark of 21.40. John Scully authored the best time in the 100 free – touching the wall in 46.90.

On the boards, Anthony Musciano won the 3-meter dive and took second in the 1-meter. He posted a score of 276.75 from three meters. Will Seely took third in both diving events.

Drexel returns to CAA action next Saturday, when it hosts Towson at noon.

NEWARK, Del. – Tight margins defined the day as Drexel Women’s Swimming and Diving opened Colonial Athletic Association competition with a tri-meet against Northeastern and Delaware. The Dragons (3-0-1, 1-0-1 CAA) narrowly topped Northeastern, 152-148, and tied the hosts, 149-149.

Alexa Kutch and Gabrielle Rudy both won multiple individual events and one relay race on Saturday. The duo combined with Alicia Diaz and Lera Nasedkina to top the field in the 200 medley relay with a mark of one minute, 45.06 seconds.

Rudy was a three-time individual winner with golds in the 100 breast (1:04.39), 200 breast (2:21.76) and 200 IM (2:07.44).

Kutch grabbed a pair of wins in her signature events, taking first in the 100 back (56.68) and 200 back (2:04.30), and won the 100 fly with a time of 58.12.

Maddie Riley gave the Dragons another first-place result with her performance in the 1000 free. She touched the wall in 10:29.63.

Drexel resumes CAA competition next Saturday when it hosts Towson at noon.

NEWARK, Del.— Megan Clark pieced together another dominant outing, but the Northeastern women’s swimming and diving team was narrowly edged by both Delaware and Drexel in the tri-meet at Rawstrom Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Delaware edged the Huskies by a score of 155-142 and Drexel narrowly won, 152-148.

Clark picked up wins in the 50-yard freestyle (23.48), 100-yard freestyle (51.13) and 200-yard freestyle (1:49.02). Additionally, Clark was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay along with Lena SpearRachel Smith and Sidney SmithBailey Smith finished in first-place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.4.

Lauren O’Sullivan picked up a win in the 3-meter dive with a score of 240.90. Sabrina Chan led the way for the Huskies in the 1-meter, finishing in second-place (252.90).

UP NEXT
The Huskies will return to Barletta Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m. for senior day.
