NEWARK, Del. – Delaware’s women’s swimming & diving team defeated Seton Hall, 207-93, in their first home meet of the 2023 calendar year on Saturday. Delaware improves to 8-0-1 this season, with their lone tie coming against La Salle.
Mira Selling led Delaware with three individual first-place finishes and a victory in a relay. She finished with a time of 23.61 in the 50 free, a time of 50.64 in the 100 free, and a time of 4:58.90 in the 500 free to claim the top spots.
Also in the 50 free, Nicole Chiappa (24.78) finished fourth and Peyton Rautzhan (25.19) finished fifth to round out the top five. Anthi Lyra finished third in the 100 free (53.10), with Chiappa finishing fifth (54.07). Lyra took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.95, while Chiappa (1:56.25) and Bella Granetzke (1:57.51) finished in third and fifth place. In the 500 free, Granetzke (5:17.95) and Charlise Oberholzer (5:22.35) finished in fourth and fifth place. In the 1000 freestyle, Natalie Dobrzykowski finished in third place (10:40.28) and Oberholzer placed fourth (10:57.81)
Four Blue Hens took the top four spots in the 100 breast, led by Mania Tasakou with a time of 1:06.96. Jenna Leonard (1:07.08), Erin Lillis (1:07.81), and Marietta Gately placed second, third, and fourth. Three Delaware swimmers also took the top three spots in the 200 breast, with Leonard leading the way with a time of 2:24.72. Tasakou followed just behind in second place (2:25.48) and Lillis placed third (2:26.12).
In the 100 back, Erin Shema finished in first place with a time of 58.07, while Makennah Fickett (1:00.21) and Cristin Earley (1:01.44) finished in fourth and sixth place. Shema also won the 200 back with a time of 2:06.15, while Dobrzykowski placed third (2:06.83) and Fickett (2:10.29) and Earley (2:10.71) placed fifth and sixth.
In the 100 fly, Aislinn Mitchell finished in first place (58.03), Alexandra Misikova in third place (58.72), and Julia Cichowska in fifth (1:01.16). Mitchell (2:08.28), Misikova (2:08.28), and Cichowska (2:11.53) took second, third, and fourth in the 200 butterfly.
In the 200 IM, Shema (2:09.25), Mitchell (2:10.84), and Lillis (2:11.57), all took the top three spots.
The team of Shema, Tasakou, Mitchell, and Lyra finished in first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:47.06. Lyra, Chiappa, Dobrzykowski, and Selling took first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.95.
Julia Servas won the 1-meter dive with a score of 285.83, and the 3-meter dive with a score of 273.68. Ella Drazek finished second at 240.00 in the 1-meter dive and third in the 3-meter dive at 229.13. Rowan O’Sullivan placed second in the 3-meter dive at 254.48.
Delaware will celebrate Senior Day on Jan. 28 against Towson.
NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men’s swimming & diving program won their eighth consecutive dual meet to begin the season on Saturday, as they defeated Seton Hall 183-116.
In the 50 free, Matvei Namakonov led the way with a time of 21.21 to finish in first place, while Luke Rautzhan (21.52) and Addison Collins (22.12) finished in third and fourth. Miguel Vasquez led Delaware in the 100 free with a time of 46.29 to finish in first place. Ryan Polino (47.83) and Namakonov (48.09) followed with third and fourth-place finishes. Andrew Taylor won the 500 free with a time of 4:37.88, while Dylan Smolders finished in fourth (4:43.70) and Kevin Lewke took fifth (4:54.76). In the 200-yard free, Taylor (1:42.54), Jacob Replogle (1:43.38), and Vasquez (1:44.13) finished second, third, and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Smolders took second place in the 1000-yard free (9:48.61), while Lewke took third place (9:55.79).
Toni Sabev (56.68), Zach Sherk (57.63), and Evan Frick (58.49) all took the top three spots in the 100-yard breast. Four Blue Hens also took the top four spots in the 200 breast, again led by Toni Sabev (2:08.59). Jack Hattery (2:09.81), Jack Gibson (2:10.23), and Jack Zapp (2:11.11) all followed in second, third, and fourth place.
The 100-yard back was won by Gavin Currie with a time of 50.43, while DJ Fechtman (51.46) and Polino (51.62) finished in third and fourth place.
Currie also won the 200-yard back at 1:50.26, with Fechtman (1:54.46) and Replogle (1:54.84) finishing in third and fourth.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Simeon Sabev finished in second place (50.29), while Polino (52.16) and T.J. Yaglenski (52.24) took fourth and fifth place. Hattery led the Blue Hens in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.18.
In the 200 IM, three Blue Hens took the top three spots, led by Hattery in first place at 1:55.63. Taylor (1:56.65) and Frick (1:57.13) followed in second and third place.
The team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov finished in first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.26. The quartet of Polino, Namakonov, Rautzhan, and Vasquez finished in second place in the 400-free relay with a time of 3:05.71.
Kevin Siegfried won the 3-meter dive at 326.18, with Philip Townsend placing second at 292.65. In the 1-meter dive, Siegfried placed second with a score of 285.15, while Townsend (270.15) and Josh Shipley(206.78) finished in fourth and sixth place.
Delaware will celebrate Senior Day on Jan. 28 against Towson.

Newark, Del. – Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving fell on the road Saturday at Delaware by a final score of 207-93.
Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) and Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.) each had strong days for the Pirates, recording individual victories and multiple top-three finishes. Cripps’ win came in the 200 Fly, touching the wall in a time of 2:07.69. She later added a second-place time of 58.10 in the 100 Fly, and helped the 200 Medley Relay team to a third-place finish to start off the meet.
Zajdzinski took the top spot in the 1000 Free to continue her strong campaign. The junior recorded a time of 10:28.17 to win the event for the fourth time this season. Zajdzinski later took second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:12.89. In both events, she finished just ahead of Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.), who took second in the 1000 Free in 10:31.92 and third in the 500 Free in 5:14.64. Zajdzinski later swam the anchor leg of the 400 Medley Relay team which took second.
Julie Stampe (Allerod-Brikerod, Denmark) and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) each picked up a pair of second place finishes on the day. Stampe nabbed second in both the 100 Back and 200 Back with times of 59.06 and 2:06.69, respectively. Heim’s runner-up finishes came in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.84, as well as the 100 Free in 53.06.
Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) claimed third-place for the Pirates in 1-meter diving. The junior posted a total score of 232.35.
The Pirates return to Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium next Saturday at 1 p.m. as they will celebrate Senior Day against Georgetown.
Newark, Del. – Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving were handed a loss on Saturday afternoon, 183-116, on the road at Delaware.
Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) had a strong afternoon for the Pirates, winning each of the fly events. The freshman touched the wall first in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:51.00, while he won the 100 Fly later in the meet with a time of 48.78. In both races, Justin Oosterwyk (Pequannock, N.J.) claimed third place.
Fellow freshman Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) was able to take the top spot in the 200 Free for the second time in as many days. Cary won the event in 1:41.33, just slightly faster than his winning time at NJIT from Friday. Cary would later take second place in the 500 Free, just ahead of Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) who finished third. Vizzard preceded his 500 Free finish with a first place time in the 1000 Free, posting a time of 9:31.64.
Klimaszewski and Cary would add a win in the 400 Free Relay later in the afternoon, combining with Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) and Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) for a time of 3:05.44.
Minar and Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) each nabbed a pair of second-place times on the day. Minar finished second in the 50 Free with a time of 21.51, while his time of 47.21 in the 100 Free also placed him on the podium. Pantano performed well in the backstroke events, taking second in the 100 Back in 51.31 before clocking a time of 1:52.12 in the 200 Back.
Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) was able to capture the win in the 1-meter with a total score of 296.33. It marks Murtha’s first win of the season in the 1-meter and second victory overall.
