GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison men’s swimming and diving captured eight event victories as they defeated Xavier University 154-108 on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville.
Senior Kymani Senior led the Big Red with three victories on Saturday, highlighted by a pair of individual wins in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. In the 50 freestyle, Senior posted a first-place finish with a final time of 21.20. Teammate Trey Ike followed in second by .30 seconds at 21.50. Senior also placed first overall in the 100 fly where he clocked in with an event-best 50.47. Noah Houskeeper trailed in third place with a final mark of 50.88.
Senior earned his final win the 200 free relay with Ike, Drake Horton, and Liam Picozzi who teamed up to reach a final time of 1:23.20. Horton turned in DU’s first victory of the day in the 200 freestyle where he placed first overall after checking in at 1:43.31. Sophomore Nicholas Czepukaitis trailed Horton by .60 seconds in third place at 1:43.91. Horton also competed in the 100 free where he finished in third place after logging a final time of 47.14. Ike edged out Horton for second place at 47.13.
In the 200 fly, senior Mitch Williams led the Big Red with a first-place time of 1:51.91. John Stauffer took second place at 1:52.45 before winning the 400 IM in 4:03.56.
Sophomore Richie Kurlich tallied a trio of top-two finishes on the day, led by an event victory in the 200 breaststroke with a final mark of 2:06.54. Fellow sophomore Piotr Kurleto trailed in fourth place at 2:14.05. Kurlich also placed second in the 100 breast at 57.71 and joined Ike, Houskeeper, and Horton in the 200 medley relay for another second-place finish at 1:34.20.
Bebe Wang recorded an event title in the 200 backstroke after clocking in at 1:50.18. Stauffer followed in second at 1:52.87. Wang also added a third-place finish in the 100 back (51.85) while Picozzi led DU in second at 51.79.
Dayen Wilson led the Big Red in the 500 (4:42.19) and 1,000 (9:38.43) freestyle, claiming second-place finishes in both events.
There were no diving events held during this dual meet.
Denison will return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for a 5 p.m. dual with Ohio State.
Denison Women
GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women’s swimming & diving posted 12 event victories as they tallied a 154-107 defeat of Xavier University on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
Casey Kirby, KT Kustritz, and Maddie Hopkins each totaled four events on the day, including a pair of relay victories for the trio. In the first event of the day, Kirby, Kustritz, and Hopkins joined forces with Gabriella Nutter to place first overall in the 200 medley relay with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 1:44.86. The quartet also captured the event title in the 200 free relay at the end of the day when they clocked in at 1:35.80.
Along with Kustritz and Hopkins, Kirby also earned a pair of individual titles against the Musketeers, winning the 100 backstroke in 57.90 and the 200 back at 2:06.80. Bridget Horton trailed Kirby in both events, finishing second overall in the 200 (2:09.05) and fifth in the 100 (1:00.51).
Kustritz continued her dominant stretch through the breaststroke events, winning the 100 with a final time of 1:04.84 and the 200 at 2:24.98. Kate Mesaros took second in both events, clocking in at 1:06.62 in the 100 and 2:25.85 in the 200.
Hopkins claimed her individual victories in the 50 free (24.34) and the 100 butterfly (57.75) while Nutter also checked in with a win in the 100 free after logging a final mark of 53.08.
First-year Tara Culibrk led the Denison newcomers with a pair of wins in the 200 freestyle (1:54.92) and the 500 free (5:08.86). Junior Logan Wickman placed fourth in the 200 (1:57.51) and senior Caroline Colville placed third overall in the 500 (5:18.02).
In DU’s second event of the day, Keely Tierney placed first overall in the 1,000 free at 10:44.26. Colville took third at 10:51.11.
Senior Natalie Zaravella rounded out DU’s effort with a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 fly (2nd – 2:07.82) and the 400 IM (3rd – 4:36.77).
There were no diving events held during this dual meet.

Xavier Men & Women
GRANVILLE, Ohio – Men’s and women’s swimming fell short Saturday afternoon in a face off against Denison. Taylor Hogan lead the way for the women with two top individual finishes while Christian Thomas and Andrew Martin led the men finishing in first, two times individually.
The Musketeers return to the water next weekend at Indiana State on Friday, November 8 at 1 p.m.
Women’s Notables
- Ali Fort, Lydia Schaeffer, Lorelei Gartner and Emily Conners claimed a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.
- Abigail Garner was the top finisher for the Musketeers taking second place in the 1000 freestyle.
- In the 200 freestyle, Clare Bosse earned second place with Emily Conners coming in a close third.
- Xavier claimed second, third and fourth place in the 100 backstroke. Ali Fort lead the way for the Musketeers followed by Brooke Atkins, and Erin Merke.
- Alison Herman took a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
- Taylor Hogan earned a top finish in the 200 butterfly, 2:06.63.
- Emily Saugstad tied for the first place finish in the 50 freestyle.
- Emily Conners placed second in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 53.23 time.
- In the 200 backstroke, Ali Fort led the way finishing in third. Riece Drew finished in a close fourth in front of Brooke Atkins and Emma Swabb.
- Lydia Schaeffer claimed third in the 200 breaststroke followed by Kelly Harris and Alison Herman.
- In the 500 freestyle, Emma Kauffeld finished in second, 5:14.98.
- In the 100 butterfly, Xavier took the top three finishes lead by Taylor Hogan who tied for first with Maddie Hopkins from Denison.
- Xavier dominated the top two finishes in the 400 IM, led by Taylor Hogan (4:33.48) followed by Alison Herman (4:37.73)
- Xavier took a second and third place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, led by Clare Bosse, Emily Saugstad, Maureen Cummins and Emily Conners.
- Xavier fell to Denison by a combined score of 154-107.
Men’s Notables
- Alex Sironen, Jon Bernard, Brandon Abboud and Christian Thomas earned a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay to kick off the event.
- Andrew Martin then touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle with a 9:34.11 time.
- In the 200 Freestyle, Jared Ritz came in a close second finishing 1:43.65.
- Christian Thomas lead the way in the 100 Backstroke finishing with a 51.06 time.
- Jon Bernard took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a 57.49 time.
- Landon Clark finished in fifth in the 200 butterfly followed by Brett Wilson and Joey Mullen.
- On the men’s side, Matthew Geraghty took fifth in the 50 freestyle.
- Christian Thomas took another first place finish in the 100 freestyle with a 46.86 time.
- Jon Bernard also took the third place finish in the 200 backstroke in front of Alex Sironen, who took the fourth place spot.
- Will Serad and Cameron Weese took the second and third place finishes in the 200 breaststroke.
- Andrew Martin claimed his second individual top finish in the 500 freestyle.
- Brandon Abboud took second in the 100 butterfly, just short of a top finish.
- Jon Bernard led the Musketeers in the 400 IM claiming third place.
