Denmark’s Ipsen Clocks 400m Free PB at 2015 Portuguese Open Nats

Solid swimming continued on day three of the 2015 Portuguese Open Nationals, where both local and international swimmers took to the pool in Coimbra.

Full Meet Results

For the host country, Portuguese swimmer, Diana Duraes, lit up the finals session with a new national record in the women’s 400m freestyle.  Although Duraes was the runner-up in tonight’s race, with the winner being that of Denmark’s Julie Lauridsen in 4:15.59, Duraes’ time of 4:19.09 took over the previous mark she held of 4:10.40, set just this past May.

Teammate and Portuguese 2015 Worlds team member, Victoria Kaminskaya, kept the momentum going with a swift 2:30.43 in the women’s 200m breaststroke event to claim the win.  She won the women’s 400m IM event during yesterday’s finals.

On the international front, Denmark’s Anton Ipsen added another victory to his previous 1500m win by touching first tonight in the 400m freestyle event.  Ipsen’s time of 3:50.23 is not only a new personal best by almost a second, but it also clears the FINA Olympic Qualifying Time of 3:50.44. Denmark, however, does list its own national Olympic qualifying mark at 3:48.73.

Great Britain swimmers Christopher Steeples and Jessica Fullalove each doubled up on wins from last night, taking home the top prize in the men’s 200m breaststroke and women’s 100m backstroke, respectively.  Steeples registered a time of 2:16.46 in his race, while Fullalove logged a time of 1:00.42 for her efforts.
Final day continues tomorrow at 9am local.
