Denmark’s Lasse Pittioni Commits to Swim for Virginia Tech

Lasse Pittioni of Ishøj, Denmark has committed to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for the 2017-18 season. “Virginia tech was for me a natural choice after speaking with the staff. They gave a great feeling of welcome combined with a lot of opportunities for me academically and athletically. I’m excited to get started and become a part of the Hokie Nation!”

Pittioni swims for Lyngby Swim Club, where he specializes in breaststroke and freestyle. He qualified for the European Junior Championships in 2013, where he competed in the 50/100/200 breast individually, and on Denmark’s 4×100 medley and 4×200 free relays.

Pittioni’s best short course meters 100/200 breast times come from December 2015 at the DM for hold – Svømmeligaen in Kastrup. He won the 200 breast and was runner-up in the 100 and the 50. He also swam the 200 free and the 100 free; he took fifth in the latter.

Top times SCM (coverted with our Speedo Time Converter):

  • 50 Breast – 27.90 (25.13)
  • 100 Breast – 1:00.38 (54.39)
  • 200 Breast – 2:12.87 (1:59.70)
  • 100 Freestyle – 50.86 (45.81)
  • 200 Freestyle – 1:51.59 (1:40.53)

In long course meters Pittioni achieved his best results at various meets over the summer. At the Danish Open at Broenshoej in April, he went 1:03.84 in the 100 breast. Two months later, Pittioni notched a 2:24.09 in the 200 breast at the Danish Championships.

Pittioni will be joined by Alex Hines, Connor Doyle, Gershwin Greene, Lane Stone, and Thomas Hallock in the Virginia Tech class of 2021.

Hokies have a solid, versatile class set up. It will be interesting to watch the ACC champ race with VT, GT, FSU (huge class this year), Louisville, and UNC all going at it! Think it’s safe to say NC State out front.
