INDIANAPOLIS – The 2017 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships began Wednesday night at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Two league records were broken as five event champions were crowned on opening night of the four-day meet.
IUPUI women lead the way with 119 points after a dominate performance on the three-meter board. The Jaguars are followed by South Dakota (96) in second and Denver (95) in third. Denver leads on the men’s side after sweeping both of the evening’s relay events with 80 points while IUPUI (68) and South Dakota (62) follow closely behind.
IUPUI senior diver Melissa Berger won her first career Summit League championship three-meter diving title, while setting a season high in the process. The Jaguars placed four divers in the top ten of the women’s three-meter final.
The Pioneers of Denver took first-place points in all four relays swam in the evening for the fourth straight year, with men’s 200 medley relay and the women’s 800 freestyle relay setting new championship meet records in the process.
The championship meet continues Thursday, Feb. 16 with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. ET and finals set for 6 p.m.

- The Denver men’s 200 medley relay team set a new Summit League Championship meet record with their winning time of 1:26.02.
- IUPUI senior diver Melissa Berger claimed the school’s first three-meter diving title since 2010. Chen Ni was the last to win the three-meter for the Jaguars.
- Denver’s women’s 800 freestyle relay team set a new all-time Summit League record with its time of 7:11.67. However, the mark was not a season best for the quartet.
- IUPUI’s men’s 200 medley (2nd) and 800 freestyle (2nd) relay teams finished with all-league honors.
