PRINCETON, N.J. – Following Saturday morning’s prelims at the 2019 Big Al Open, the University of Denver men’s 200 free relay that won its race Friday evening, broke a school record and qualified for the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a 1:17.09 in a time trail on Saturday at Denunzio Pool.
Junior Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.) led off the relay with a 19.19, followed by splits from redshirt-junior Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) in 18.77, Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho) in 20.05 and Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) in 19.08 for the quartet’s time of 1:17.09.
The previous school record in the 200 free relay was 1:17.22, set by Farber, Anton Loncar, Auchinachie and Stephen Calkins in 2018, good for 14th in the finals session at the NCAA Championships that season, the first DI All-American relay in program history.
Denver’s time on Saturday morning qualified for the NCAAs automatically by 0.08 seconds.
