For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Spencer Boyd commits to swim for DePauw University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Spencer Boyd of Cincinnati, OH has announced his decision to swim for Depauw University’s class of 2024. The Seven Hills Upper High School senior shared the news, “I am very excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Depauw University! It’s been a long journey and I wanna thank God first and foremost and next all my family, coaches, teammates and teachers for helping me get to where I am. It’s going to be a great 4 years full of great opportunities and experiences, go Tigers!”

At the club level, Boyd swims for the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA Tigersharks. Last summer, he competed at the YMCA Long Course National Championships in College Park, MD. He competed in the 50 free, going a 25.65 to earn 84th. In December, he swam at the NAC Speedo Music City Invitational. He swam the 50 and 100 of all 4 strokes, making it back to finals in the 50 and 100 free, and the 100 back. He earned the final spot in the A-final of the 50 free, ultimately finishing 8th. Boyd went the same time during both the prelims and finals of the 50 free (21.80), which took 0.46 seconds off his previous best time. He later swam the 100 free going a personal best time of 48.92 in prelims. He fell a bit short of his time in finals, but still managed to earn 15th place.

Boyd is set to graduate from Seven Hills Upper High School in the spring. In February, Boyd earned 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal at the Miami Valley Conference Championships. Seven Hills opened the meet with a gold medal in the 200 medley relay. Tim Kalin led off the winning relay on back, Christopher Maring followed on breast, Sam Adams swam fly, and Boyd anchored. Boyd was able to increase the lead his teammates had created over Cincinnati Hills Christian’s relay. Boyd earned an individual gold medal in the 50 free (22.76) where he powered to the wall 0.88 seconds ahead of CJ Replogle of Summit Country Day School. Boyd went on to earn silver medal in the 100 free (51.44) behind Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s Logan Ottke, and then ended his meet with a final gold medal on the 200 free relay. Boyd led off the relay (22.86), followed by Adams, Maring, and Kalin. The men breezed to the wall, touching 3.26 seconds ahead of Cincinnati Country Day School.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 21.80
  • 100 free – 48.92
  • 200 free – 1:52.69

When he joins in the fall, Boyd will be DePauw’s 3rd fastest 50 freestyler behind Ben Hilfinger and Jake Frech and he will be their 5th fastest 100 freestyler. With these rankings, Boyd will have a chance to make DePauw’s 200 and 400-free relays. These would have also have qualified for finals swims at the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Boyd is DePauw’s first member of the men’s class of 2024.
