Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Sydney Britton of Tacoma, WA has announced her decision to swim at the University of Redlands beginning in the fall of 2020. The backstroke specialist shared the news by stating, “I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Redlands! The moment I walked on campus, I knew this is where I would end up. I was immediately welcomed by everyone, especially the swim team. I can’t wait to spend the next four years in California. Go Dawgs!!!”
As a senior at Stadium High School, Britton competed at the 2019 Washington Girls 3A State Championship. She swam the backstroke leg of her team’s 200-medley relay, followed by Amelia Pape on breast, Amarachi Uwaoma on fly, and Abigail Britton on freestyle. Individually, she swam the 200 IM (2:17.44), placing 17th, only one spot away from making it back for a finals swim.
In January, Britton joined her club team – Fife Area Swim Team – at the 44th Annual Washington Open. She swam the 50 and 100 free, 100 and 200 back, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM. Of those events, she earned 4 personal best times in the 100 and 200 back, 100 breast, and 100 fly.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 back – 2:13.05
- 100 back – 1:02.57
- 200 IM – 2:17.37
- 50 back – 29.89
- 400 IM – 4:56.86
- 100 free – 57.43
In the fall, Britton will add depth to the Redlands women’s team as they work toward moving ahead of Chapman University and Occidental College at the 2021 SCIAC Championships. Her 200 back will make her the team’s 3rd fastest behind Sydney Nakagawa and Courtney Prefontaine, both rising juniors. Similarly, she will be their 4th fastest 400 IMer. At the 2020 SCIAC Championships, the Redlands women’s team placed 5th, with only 43 points separating them from 3rd place finishers Chapman University. Britton’s 100 back time would have placed her 19th at conference, 0.5 seconds off of a final swim. Her 200 back would have given her the last spot in the B-final. Britton is the first announced commitment for the Redlands women’s class of 2024.
