Joy Field, #19 on SwimSwam’s list of the top prospects in the girls’ high school class of 2017, has made the decision to swim for Texas A&M beginning in 2017-18. Field is a distance freestyle specialist who swims out of Magnolia Aquatic Club just outside of Houston. She is a member of the 2016-2017 Women’s National Junior Team for the 800 free, in which her 8:31.21 landed her a silver medal at 2016 Junior Pan Pacs in the 800 free. That swim was the 25th-fastest in U.S. history for 17-18 girls, and she added to that a gold in the non-Olympic 1500 free.
Field was the Speedo Junior National champion in the 1500 free, runner-up in the 800, and seventh-place finisher in the 400 free this summer. She placed 11th in the 800 free and 43rd in the 400 free at Olympic Trials in June. In short course season she was runner-up in the 1650 free at Speedo Junior Nationals West, and won both the 800m and 1650y freestyles at NCSA Spring Championships.
A senior at Magnolia High School, Field was third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free at the 2016 Texas 5A State Championships. At only 17, Field is already ranked #17 on the 17-18 all-time list in the 1500m free, #25 in the 800m, #70 in the 400m, and #31 in the 1650y free. Her best times are:
SCY | LCM | |
1650/1500 free | 16:02.07 | 16:14.79 |
1000/800 free | 9:58.52 | 8:31.21 |
500/400 free | 4:45.86 | 4:12.79 |
200 free | 1:49.18 | 2:03.30 |
Field is of immediate value to the Aggies; her 1650 time would have scored 10th at 2016 NCAA Division I Championships. At the conference level, she would have been the only Aggie scorer in the top 8 of the 1650 at 2016 SEC Championships, and would have been a B-finalist in the 500.
Field will join Taylor Pike and Haley Yelle in the Texas A&M class of 2021.

Another key accomplishment in 2016 for Field is her 5K win at the U.S. 18-Under Open Water National Championships in April. Thanks for doing these recruiting commits, SwimSwam.
Another great pickup for the Aggies. Magnolia Aquatic Club is becoming the feeder program for A&M.
Congrats Joy! Texas A&M is on a roll, the future looks bright for the Aggies! Whoop!
She also won the 1500 free at last junior pan pacs in 16.14.
Oops, Swim Swam! A gold-medal swim in the 1500 free (with a 16:14) was her big result at Pan Pacs!
Well done A&M staff! A&M ladies could be dominant in the next couple years. Exciting!
