Abby Kohl commits to University of Omaha-Nebraska for 2020-2021 season.

Abby Kohl of Cypress, Texas has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Nebraska-Omaha beginning in the fall of 2020. Kohl swims year-round with Swim Streamline at Northampton and is now a senior at Cy Creek High School.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and continue my education for the next four years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha!! A big thanks to my parents, my sister, my coaches, and all my teammates for helping me reach this goal of mine. I can’t to see what these next four years have in store! GO MAVS!!”

Kohl’s head coach Laura Koch Davis added, “Abby brings her love of the sport, a dynamic personality, and a good work ethic to the pool everyday. This will be a winning combination in college and in life. We are excited to see her excel this year and at the University of Nebraska-Omaha!”

Kohl placed in the top 24 in five events at the 2019 Gulf SC Champs III, three of which were top-3 swims. She placed 23rd in the 200 IM, 18th in the 200 free, and she earned bronze medals in the 500 and 1650 and the gold medal in the 1000. Despite being 22 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Emma Bleasdell, Kohl charged to the wall in a personal best time of 10:31.73. Her 1650 was only 2 seconds shy of the silver medal. Frederica Kizek and Kathryn Zimmerman took home the gold and silver medals for the event. Kohl’s performances added 52 points to her team total, aiding in their 17-point win over Dads Club Swim Team.

Top SCY Times:

  • 1000 free – 10:31.73

In the fall, Kohl will be one of the top distance swimmers for the Mavericks. She will come in as the fastest 1000 and 1650 freestyler, as Kylie Vermeire graduated in the spring. She will train alongside Lauryn Schieffer, who will be a junior when Kohl joins the team. She will be joining sprint freestyler Morgan Baker as a member of the class of 2024.
