Distance Freestyler Lukas Gately Sends Verbal Commitment to Denison

Lukas Gately from Berthoud, Colorado has opted to swim for Division III’s Denison University next fall. Gately attends Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, and swims year-round for Loveland Swim Club.

“Denison offers unique and excellent opportunities both academically and in the pool. With a fantastic coaching staff and an incredibly devoted team atmosphere, I felt that the school would be a perfect fit for me. I’m greatly looking forward to supplementing my academic and athletic abilities in my next four years here. Go Big Red!”

Gately, whose older brother, Liam Gately, is a freshman at Northwestern University this season, specializes in distance freestyle and IM. He took 7th in the 500 free and 10th in the 200 IM at the 2016 CHSAA 4A Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet as a sophomore, and 8th and 9th in those same events as a junior this past May. In club swimming, Gately followed up his high school season with strong performances at the American Long Course championships in the 200/400/1500 free, 200 back, and 200/400 IM. This fall he updated all his freestyle and IM times at the Southern Senior Championships Invitational hosted by The Woodlands Swim Team.
