Wyckoff YMCA Sharks’ distance swimmer Jillian Calocino gave her verbal commitment to swim for the Seton Hall University Pirates come next September.
Calocino brings with her plenty of talent in the distance events where she has already shown her prowess at a wide range of top level competitions.
At the 2015 Short Course YMCA Nationals Calocino finished ninth overall in the 1650 freestyle. There, the 16-year-old swim a 17:02.26 in order to gain nine points for her team. She went on to swim the 1500m freestyle at the Long Course YMCA Nationals later in the season, putting up a 17:35.71 to finish eighth overall.
Calocino already has the potential to make a major impact for the Seton Hall Pirates next season. Based on last season’s results, Calocino would have placed fourth overall in the 1650 freestyle at the Big East Conference Championships.
With the Seton Hall ladies finishing a close fourth to Xavier, there’s no denying that Calocino’s impact could make the difference between a fourth and third place finish at the conference championships.
When Calocino was asked why she chose Seton Hall she told Swimswam, “I chose Seton Hall because it gave me everything I was looking for on my recruiting trip. The team was so welcoming and made me feel like I was at home.”
