Dixie State University Earns Verbal From LHSAA D1 Champion Emily Schexnayder

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emily Schexnayder, a versatile freestyler and sprinter, sent her verbal commitment to join Dixie State University swimming beginning fall of 2025.

“I am honored to announce my commitment to Dixie State University. I am excited to be able to continue my academic and athletic career at such a beautiful and amazing school. A huge thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for supporting me! Go trailblazers!”

She is currently a senior at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans,  Louisiana, an all-girls Catholic high school. During her time at Mount Carmel, she has medaled 7 times at the LHSAA Division 1 High School State Championships (Division 1 is for the larger schools of 4 divisions), including 5 first place finishes. After winning the 100 free as a freshman in 2017 and placing 6th in the 100 back, Schexnayder won both the 100 free and 100 fly back to back years in 2018 and 2019. This past fall, she placed 2nd in the 100 back and 3rd in the 100 fly.

Schexnayder competes for Nu Wave Swim Club under head coach Ross Hedrick. In the summer of 2019, she placed 3rd in the 50m and 100m free at the Louisiana State 13 and Over Championships, including A final finishes in the 200m free, 100 back, and 100 fly. She finished out her junior season with a personal best time in the 200 free at the Speedo Champions Series – College Station meet. This past December, she placed 3rd in the 1650 and 1000 free at the 18 & Under Championships – LA YNWL.

TOP SCY TIMES:

  • 50 Free – 24.36
  • 100 Free – 52.64
  • 200 Free – 1:54.78
  • 1650 Free – 17:55.32
  • 100 Back – 58.16
  • 100 Fly – 57.86

Schexnayder will add further strength to a Trailblazer freestyle group that put had 4 top 16 scorers in the 50 free and 200 free, and 5 scorers in the 100 free at the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship in 2020, numbers only matched by conference champions Colorado Mesa. She would have placed in the A final in the 100 free and the 200 free, and B final in the 50 free. Her versatility extends well past those three events though, with her best in the 1650, 100 back, and 100 fly placing her top 8 as well at the conference meet. Dixie State women are coming off a 3rd place finish at the 2020 conference championships, and Schexnayder’s high scoring ability in multiple events will provide much needed top-end depth, especially with 2020 conference 100 fly silver medalist Hannah Hansen and 50/100 free A finalist Miriam Gonzalez graduating for the Trailblazers last year.

Along with Schexnayder, the 2021 Dixie State recruiting class includes sprinters Amanda Farnum and Ally Boynton
