Djakovic & Zirk Lower Newly-Minted 400 Free National Records

2021 LEN EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Already here in Budapest the men’s 400m free saw several national records go down just in the heats, with both Swiss ace Antonio Djakovic and Estonian standout Kregor Zirk among the racers getting on the board with new lifetime bests. The pair upped their games in the final, each lowering their newly-minted records for the medal-contending race tonight at Duna Arena.

Finishing in 6th place with a time of 3:46.54, Djakovic sliced well over half a second from his 3:47.23 prelim effort to check in with the first sub-3:47 time of his career. Prior to this meet, he held the Swiss national standard at the 3:47.89 he logged at the 2019 European Junior Championships at just 16 years of age.

As for Zirk, after posting a new Estonian national record of 3:48.39, the 21-year-old Energy Standard team member managed to drop another .04 to check-in at 3:48.35 and place 8th.
