Beata Nelson kept rolling after her two wins in the 100 back (1:01.66) and 50 fly (27.40) last night. Tonight, she took the 200 back with a strong 2:15.45, knocking a sizable 9-second chunk off of her previous best from 2013. Her backstroke has looked good this meet– her 100 back swim was her first venture under the 1:02 mark.
Two 15-year-olds, Emma Muzzy (2:17.23) and Ryley Ober (2:17.57), touched behind Nelson. Finishing behind them was Hannah Whiteley (2:17.67), who also happened to finish as runner-up in the 100 back yesterday.
The boy’s 200 back was all about youth, as the fastest time by far came from 16-year-old Clark Beach. His 2:02.69 was the fastest time by nearly two seconds, followed by 15-year-old John Healy at 2:04.34 and Clark’s twin brother Ethan Beach at 2:04.57. The Beach brothers swim for Quest Swimming in Virginia.
Nelson wasn’t able to post another victory in the 50 free– rather it was Ashley Volpenhein at 25.88 who took the title. She touched just ahead of CATS’ Daria Pyshnenko (26.02) and Miranda Donley (26.13). Nelson finished 4th at 26.20. Khalil Fonder won the boys’ 50 free with a 24.04, just missing 23.
15-year-old Patrick Lacore finished on top in the 50 breast with a 29.15, while Katherine Kustritz edged Janessa Mathews in the girls’ 50 breast by just one hundredth. Kustritz touched at 32.83 to Mathews’ 32.84.
